Today was the last show of the season at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. The weather was perfect… with a nice cloudy sky to add to the photos. I caught a few good shots of the show, this is one of my favorites… more to come.
Always a favorite with the crowd, the Fokker DR.I is apparently very difficult to fly. The announcer at the show described it as “always trying to kill the pilot”. There are no known original copies of the DR.I in existence, so this one (and any other you will ever see) is a replica.
The Albatross D.Va is one of my favorite biplanes at the Aerodrome. It has beautiful lines, and the lacquered wood fuselage gives it a bit of a sailing ship feel. The smoke coming from the engine was just part of the show… a little oil injected into the exhaust.
