Ahhh St. Paddy’s day in NYC… nothing like it. The NYPD were out and about, on various corners this morning, preparing for the days “festivities”. As a NYC regular, I see the barricades and think “How am I going to get across 5th ave. at lunch time?”. My iPod is shuffling The Pogues as I debate venturing out later tonight to McSorley’s… where the vomit absorbing sawdust has a very special meaning on this day of the year.

My Hobby
Chrysler Building
The Chrysler Building is one of my favorite NYC landmarks. I took this shot on my way to work this morning. I really liked the dark mood created by the back light and gray clouds.
I was lucky enough to attend author Neal Bascomb’s presentation in the old Cloud Club in 2002. If you have any interest in skyscrapers, I highly recommend you check out Mr. Bascomb’s book : Higher: A Historic Race to the Sky and the Making of a City.
NYC Steam

Man in Black
The intersection at 47th street and 6th Ave. seems to have some steam issues. It seems to be pouring out of every drain, manhole cover and pothole. This shot was taken with my new favorite toy, a Canon G9. While I love my D200, it was starting to wear on my back and shoulders a bit. So far, the G9 is looking good. It’s lacking in the wide angle, and shallow depth of field departments, but makes up for it with image stabilization and compactness. I am finding that I am much more likely to carry it in hand as I walk to and from work in the mornings.
I’d like to give a shout out to David Beckerman of New York Photography. David was kind enough to sell me his lightly used G9 at a very fair price. Hopefully he left a bit of his talent in the camera for me to absorb.
